IF ANIMALS ARE NOT WELL TREATED

"Poor animal care is not good science. If animals are not well-treated, the science and knowledge they produce is not trustworthy and cannot be replicated, an important hallmark of the scientific method."           - Stanford Medicine

"Good science requires better animal welfare." - Editorial in Science, 2022

"Animals with compromised welfare have disturbed behavior, physiology and immunology. This can lead to unreliable conclusions and/or unwanted variation in scientific output, affecting both the reliability and repeatability of experiments."  - Nature Publishing Group, Lab Animal, 2017

THE SCIENCE THEY PRODUCE IS NOT TRUSTWORTHY

RIDGLAN HAS BEEN CITED

WITH 300+ ANIMAL WELFARE VIOLATIONS

Ridglan Farms has been cited with over 300 serious animal welfare violations over the past few years, The 300+ violations provide clear evidence that Ridglan dogs are suffering from psychological and physical stress, some of which is severe, and they are being exposed to unhealthy levels of ammonia. These stressors and exposures compromise data collected from the dogs.

In particular, hundreds of peer-reviewed scientific studies demonstrate that the types of stressors and chemicals to which the Ridglan dogs are exposed have direct and long-lasting effects on the dogs’ physiology, their methylome, and their microbiome. These effects make it impossible to ensure high-quality, reproducible, and reliable scientific data.

Ridglan’s treatment of dogs is ethically unacceptable and it is appalling that the facility continues to operate despite the hundreds of serious animal welfare violations cited in recent years. More than 100 animal rights organizations across the country are calling attention to the ongoing abuses documented at this facility.

This website was created by scientists who are working to raise awareness within the scientific community. It is clear that Ridglan is not meeting its stated mission to “provide purpose bred beagles for research that increases and exceeds the expectations of the research community”. Given the documented violations and welfare concerns, Ridglan should not be supplying animals for experiments or conducting in-house research.
